Reviewing Retire KZN 2018
Retire KZN, an initiative created by Tongaat Hulett Developments, has created significant awareness around the change taking place around retirement, new development opportunities and has highlighted the beauty of living in KwaZulu-Natal. We take a moment to recall some of the key milestones that have taken place and some interesting finds from 2018.
Our community and what Retire KZN has achieved
Retire KZN has grown substantially over the years and our community is now over 3300 people, with an average social media reach of over 290 000 people per month. This is one of the biggest retirement communities in South Africa and as a result, all the feedback we have recieved from you, helps us shape a retirement lifestyle that is best suited to the market demands. Through this campaign, Retire KZN has managed to help stimulate approximately R1 billion in retirement investments into KwaZulu-Natal. This achievement alone shows just how sought-after good retirement opportunities are in KwaZulu-Natal, and how by listening to the market, developers can create retirement lifestyles that are timeless yet relevant.
Exclusive interviews with industry experts
This year we hosted a media event, where we had a panel of guest speakers from respective developments and businesses. Their insight on the day was invaluable and gave us a first-hand glimpse of their vision for retirement in this province. Our first guest panel speaker was Arthur Case, CEO of Evergreen Lifestyle, who weighed in on life rights; his insight helped our community understand life rights better and see what benefits they would gain from choosing this option in their retirement plan. CEO of Collins Residential, Murray Collins, was our second speaker on our guest panel, who shared the steps his team had to take to create what has been confirmed as one of South Africa’s top retirement villages to date. The third guest panel speaker was Tongaat Hulett Developments’ Commercial Director, Chris du Toit, who reviewed the Retire KZN campaign and its effectiveness on the retirement industry. Gap Capital Director, Alan Beesley, was our final guest panel speaker who showed how powerful research and understanding the market can be when creating a retirement product. Gaining this type of insight from heavy-weight players in the property development industry is unheard of and Retire KZN brought it to our community.
Understanding the market
Every year, we hope to discover new insights into the retirement market, especially within KwaZulu-Natal. Our key findings in 2018, from our Retire KZN community, have shown that 2-bedroom units are undeniably the most popular choice, and that approximately 41% of our community are looking for opportunities between R1 – R2 million. This insight is invaluable to developers who are looking to facilitate retirement opportunities. For instance, retirement lifestyle focus should be on security, presenting a state-of-the-art onsite care centre, allow pets, a clubhouse for social gatherings, as well as providing extra storage space.
We look forward to bringing in 2019 with amazing insight that will not only help educate you, but also give developers a better understanding of what they need to deliver. We hope you and your family have a happy festive season and look forward to celebrating your new chapter with you in the New Year.
